Sofia el Arabii is the founder and Creative Director of Bakchic. She continues to put Morocco on fashion's map in a major way, doing so with a graceful, unstoppable spirit of entrepreneurship. Sofia and I first crossed digital paths circle 2009, back when Bakchic lived exclusively on Blogspot as fashion bakchic and Cool And Thoughtful was lurking in the depths of K's First Fashion Blog, "Kerrin's Palooza."
Oh the days!
Traded comments on Blogspot turned into an interview I did with Sofia for Harvard's Center for Middle Eastern Studies, and here we both are almost eight years later. What makes Sofia special is that she has taken what could be considered "every fashion blogger's dream" -- to be a known creator and tastemaker -- and turned it into reality. In doing so, she continues to blend cultural influences in a way that is generative, mindful, and inspiring. This is one epitome of what it means to be Cool And Thoughtful.
For all the above reasons, I have wanted to invest in one fo Sofia's pieces for a long time. The piece I was eying finally came back in stock (as they crafted in very small batches), and so Claire and I met up on a holiday Monday, and we sashayed our way around Soho, sprinkling Bakchic magic all over lower Manhattan.
