What do you burn for? What I'm passionate about is beauty and discovery -- beauty in the natural world from oceans to rainforests; or man-made beauty from urban metropolises to fine art. I also have an insatiable curiosity of the universe and our ongoing discoveries about how the world works and how it all came to be as it is. And on the other end, I'm interested in how the world will unfold in the future from our technological advances.
How do you describe your aesthetic? My aesthetic is a mix of tom-boy style appropriated from traditionally masculine power dressing mixed with sensual feminine minimalism -- clothing that speaks to comfort and a hint of je ne sais quoi - nothing ever loud or screaming for attention.
My favorite thing in my closet is...because... My favorite thing in my closet is a Vera Wang dress that I found at a second hand shop for $60. It’s beautiful 1950s art-deco inspired shift dress cut in a beautiful fine lace with a deep front and back v-neck. It is very delicate looking yet so versatile.
What are your dreams? My dream is to one day run a couturier/tailor shop making the finest of garments where quality and craftsmanship are not constrained by price. I also dream of a world where the norm in our society is for Individuals to think from a place of conscientiousness and compassion -- for us to have risen above our instinctual drives for money and power; and to reach the equilibrium where we support a greater conscious responsibility to each other and Mother Nature.
Where does the name "Joule Factory" come from? Joule factory was inspired by the unit measure joule, a measure of energy. The idea that everything which exists, excites, and imbues awe in us all originated from tiny sparks of energy – the fundamental element in all matter. Similarly, I wish to explore clothing as an exercise in fulfilling women's needs for the fundamentals of function, purpose, and beauty -- not just soulless, pretty things
What is something are you learning, practicing, or improving on right now? I'm learning and practicing being patient and accepting. Getting that life unfolds in unpredictable ways and choosing to accept what it offers with gratitude and wonder.
Anything else we should know? The person I was is not the person I am today and who knows who I'll be in the future!
