Meg Von Schroeter is a Cool And Thoughtful girl who has a way with gratitude, perspective, and adventure.
What do you burn for? Anything janky & fun. I love going on mini-adventures - whether that means finding a hidden diner for lunch, finding a local thrift shop and trying on ridiculous costumes, or just getting in the car to drive. One time my friend and I drove to West Virginia on a whim one Sunday night because we realized we'd never been before and probably wouldn't be going anytime soon (car broke down halfway there but thats a story for another time). One of my professors gave a lecture at the end of this year encouraging us to wake up each morning and "create a a good day" - I just love that.
Who or what is most inspiring to you? I have so many people that are inspiring to me. My high school English teacher, who once raced his best friend from California to Boston by hitchhiking across the country, told me "the best education a kid your age could get is to drive straight across the U.S." My grandmother, who moved to New Mexico because she loves the open land there and from whom I find my love for adventure. My friend Grace, who taught me what it means to be apart of a team. And my mom, who is kind to everyone and always so selfless.
Why run? My love for running started with my dad - before I was old enough to go running myself, I would ride my bike while he jogged beside me (and pushed me up the hills). We would have the most interesting conversations on our bike-runs, where he would tell stories and explain to me "grown-up" subjects like politics and history. He always promised that once I was twelve years old, I could start to run with him. I did, and that started a love for running that carried me through six years of competitive cross-country.
What are you practicing, learning, or improving on right now? I want to read more! I realized that "life getting in the way" really isn't an excuse, because life is always going to be busy and that leaves no time for learning about the world. Now my friend Abby and I send each other interesting articles we find, and I have my eye out for pieces with a new, interesting perspectives to read each day.
My favorite piece in my closet is... a yellow dress embroidered with little flowers that used to be my mom's! The yellow makes me happy.
What are your dreams? Honestly, I just want to have a family as loving as mine is now someday. A lot of other things, but thats the most important to me.
